Genealogy, history, folklore, and culture of the people of this area, focused on the Cumberland Mountain area of the Central Appalachian region, centered around Dickenson, Wise and Russell Counties in Southwestern Virginia and Pike and Letcher Counties in Eastern Kentucky. Some families are closely associated with a group of people known as Melungeons.

Also associated with some melungeon communities.
