FFS was founded in 1994 and its main task has been to create and publish a database of blacksmiths and their families. In May 2012 it contained information on 220 000 persons and is steadily growing. Based on the database the organisation produces almost annually, a DVD and edits 3-4 leaflets on blacksmith families.
