Regional History Center - NIU - University Libraries
The Regional History Center is a unique component of Northern Illinois University’s commitment to education, research, and public service. The Center’s mission is to acquire, preserve, and make available to the public the most significant historical records of the northern Illinois region. This includes genealogy, census, family history, and other relevant information from the area. We actively collect from the eighteen northern counties of Illinois excluding Cook County. Since 1977 the Center has grown into a multifaceted research center which houses three related sets of historical records: University Archives, Regional Collections, and Local Government Records (Illinois Regional Archives Depository).

Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center
Located at Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois. This is a national archives and research institute for the study of Swedish immigration to North America. Holdings are extensive, including materials from all sectors of the Swedish immigrant community in the USA and Canada, including immigration studies, settlement histories, immigrant literature and arts, Swedish-American biography and genealogy, as well as Swedish-American church life and social organizations.
