The Connecticut River Valley area of New England was the Cross roads of migration to Vermont, New York and westward. Photographs of gravestones in the Connecticut River Valley area of Massachusetts and Connecticut, the earlier the date, the better. The cemeteries are located within 30 miles on BOTH sides of the Connecticut River which covers a good deal of area.

Over 13,500 images documenting the sculpture on more than 9,000 gravestones, most of which were made prior to 1800. The data accompanying the photographs include the name and death date of the deceased, the location of the stone, and information concerning the stone material, the iconography, the inscription, and (when known) the carver. The focus of the collection are Massachusetts & Connecticut grave markers.
