WorldVitalRecords.com - Virginia Will Records
$
Virginia Will Records. . (1982). Virginia Will Records is composed of articles dealing with Virginia wills, inventories, and administration accounts and contains virtually everything pertaining to estate records ever published in the leading Virginia periodicals. Also incorporated in the collection are a number of articles containing abstracts of various companion records--court minutes and deeds, for example--as well as a smaller group of articles dealing with the probate of certain wills in England. Their appearance here--along with an index of 27,000 entries--will spare the genealogist the trouble of searching through hundreds of out-of-the-way volumes and save an untold amount of time in research. The following are the Virginia counties pertaining to which one or more articles may be found in the collection: Accomac, Albemarle, Amherst, Botetourt, Brunswick, Caroline, Charles City, Dinwiddie, Elizabeth City, Fluvanna, Frederick, Fredericksburg, Goochland, Hampshire (WV), Hanover, Hardy (WV), Isle of Wight, King William, Lancaster, Louisa, Middlesex, Northampton, Petersburg, Pittsylvania, Prince George, Princess Anne, Old Rappahannock, Richmond, Russell, Stafford, Surry, Sussex, Westmoreland, and York.

$
Wills and Administrations of Isle of Wight County, Virginia, 1647-1800. Blanche Adams Chapman. (1938, 1975). Originally published in three volumes with three separate indexes, Wills and Administrations of Isle of Wight County, Virginia, 1647-1800 has been reconstituted and all three volumes have been repaged in one sequence, with a comprehensive index of over 20,000 entries. The researcher is thus provided an easy-to-use, compact edition in which a name from any one of three volumes can readily be located. The original records on file in Isle of Wight County and abstracted in this work are: Wills and Administrations Book A (1641-1650); Will and Deed Books 1 and 2 (1658-1659, 1666-1719); Will Books 3-11 (1726-1800); Deed Book I (1691-1695); Administrations and Probates (1666-1701); and The Great Book (1719-1729). In addition to the names of the testators and legatees, the entries provide the names of executors, securities, and witnesses and frequently include assignments of property.

$
Wills and Administrations of Surry County, Virginia 1671-1750. Eliza Timberlake Davis. (1955, 1980). Surry County, which was originally part of the Jamestown settlement, figured conspicuously in the early history of the colony of Virginia. This work is a compilation of abstracts of the earliest extant wills and administrations of Surry County, containing abstracts of over 1,250 wills and administrations, with upwards of 7,000 index entries. Covering the eighty-year period between 1671 and 1750, its sweep is sufficient to establish it as the premier source book in Surry County genealogy, and few researchers interested in this early period of Virginia history can afford to overlook it. Typically the will abstracts provide the following data: name of the testator, names of legatees, bequests, names of executors and witnesses, date of instrument, date of probate, and the book and page number wherein the original will is recorded. Administrations, of course, usually give the name of the administrators and the date of appointment. Quite a number of inventory appraisals are also given in the work. Needless to say, the will abstracts contain some of the richest genealogical information available, especially the bequests which identify the legatees' relationship to the testator.

WorldVitalRecords.com - Wills of Westmoreland County, Virginia, 1654 - 1800
$
Wills of Westmoreland County, Virginia, 1654-1800. Augusta B. Fothergill. (1925). Fothergill's work improves upon William A. Crozier's efforts for Westmoreland County by including abstracts of wills of one entire volume (1665-77) omitted by Crozier, and extending Crozier's period of coverage (in Virginia County Records, New Series, Vol. I) by six years to 1800. About 8,000 related individuals are mentioned in 1,200 will abstracts, which typically give the name of the decedent, dates of recording and probate, heirs, executors, and, sometimes, the place of residence. Crucial for anyone doing research in Westmoreland County.
