Apprentice Bonds of Buncombe County, North Carolina 1795—1868, abstracted by James Pylant. County courts were required by law to bind out poor orphans or minors to court-appointed individuals who were responsible for the child’s education and training in a useful trade, as well as providing "sufficient diet, washing, lodging, and apparel." This abstract lists the date of the indenture, name of the orphan, age (if given), and the individual to whom the orphan was bound.
