Bach Genealogy - Bach (Back) family from southeastern Kentucky
The original spelling of their name, back in Thuringia, Germany, was "BACH." But after they immigrated in 1740, they simplified the spelling to "BACK." They settled in what later became Madison County, Virginia. In 1791, the youngest son, Joseph Back (1745-1819,) and his wife Elizabeth Hoffman-Maggard, and their children, migrated to southeastern Kentucky and founded the Bach (Back) family there.

Harman BACK of Little Fork, Virginia
Harman BACK (born 1708) sailed to America in 1738, and was living in Little Fork, Virginia by 1740. He had sailed with his wife Anna and their 1-year-old son Harman Jr. Harman (1708) died in Little Fork, sometime before 1789, when his only son Harman Jr. sold the land that he had inherited from him, and moved to central Kentucky with his wife Katherine and their three sons (Joseph, Harman Jr., and Jacob).
