The goal of the California History Section is to obtain every book concerning California history, along with a representative selection of newspapers and periodicals. Complementing these printed holdings is an array of other materials, including maps, letters, sheet music, postcards, photographs, posters, pamphlets, programs, and other ephemera.

Located in Danville, Illinois, the I.G.H.S. is the oldest genealogy society in Illinois. The library covers all of Vermilion county, Illinois and has numerous resources for all other states as well. The obituary books are a little known treasure. IGHS was organized in order to collect, catalog and maintain genealogical records and historical materials pertaining to the central Illiana area.
