    • RootsWeb: Genealogy Mailing Lists 
      The majority of genealogy mailing lists are hosted by RootsWeb.com. Messages on RootsWeb lists are archived. The links to RootsWeb below point you to the archives (browse or search).

    • AHTA Mailing List 
      For anyone with a genealogical or historical interest in the Anti-Horse Thief Association (AHTA) and the people associated with it. The AHTA began before the Civil War in Missouri to prevent criminality. It guaranteed protection to members and helped law enforcement with the pursuit, capture, arrest, conviction and recovery of stolen horses, mules, equipment, etc. Archives: browse or search.
    • AMERICAN-FORTS Mailing List 
      For anyone with a genealogical interest in Calvary, Native Americans, and civilians living in any fort in America. Archives: browse or search.
    • BUFFALO-HUNTERS Mailing List 
      For the discussion and sharing of information regarding the ancestors and descendants of the American frontiersmen who were under contract to the army and the railroads after the Civil War to slaughter buffalo in order to provide meat for the new army posts on the Plains and the railroad construction crews. Archives: browse or search.
    • OK-CSCPA Mailing List 
      For anyone with a genealogical or historical interest in the Oklahoma Cherokee Strip Cow Punchers Association (CSCPA) and the people associated with it. Over Labor Day weekend in 1920, George W. Miller of the 101 Ranch in Bliss (Marland), Oklahoma invited cowboys that had ridden the Chisholm and other cattle trails to a rodeo at the 101 Ranch. While assembled the men decided to form the CSCPA, a social and fraternal organization, and meet every year on Labor Day weekend. Archives: browse or search.
    • OK-LAWMEN-OUTLAW Mailing List 
      For the discussion and sharing of information regarding ancestors who were lawmen or outlaws in the Oklahoma or Indian Territories. Archives: browse or search.
    • OLDWEST-COWBOYS-INDIANSCOUTS Mailing List 
      For anyone with a genealogical interest in the Old West, cowboys, indian scouts and anything pertaining to them. Discussion of migration patterns, immigration, historical sketches, settlements, web sites, etc. is encouraged. Archives: browse or search.
    • OUTLAWS-OF-THE-OLD-WEST Mailing List 
      For anyone who is researching their ancestors who were outlaws of the old West. Archives: browse or search.
    • TX-LAWMEN-OUTLAW Mailing List 
      For anyone researching ancestors who were lawmen or outlaws in Texas. Archives: browse or search.

    The sites found in this category vary in content. Some sites have extractions or transcriptions of actual records. Other sites have helpful lists, articles, tips or guidelines. In a few cases there are scanned images of the original source documents themselves, with more of these types of records coming online each day. Keep in mind that extractions & transcriptions may have errors or may be missing certain portions of the original source material. Always refer to the original source material whenever possible and only use extractions & transcriptions as a starting point to help guide you in your research.
