Databases - Lineage-Linked
(a.k.a. Linked Pedigrees, GEDCOM Databases, etc.)
|
|
- A "lineage-linked" database is what your genealogy software program creates as you enter your family data - linking each generation in your family file together.
- Think of a lineage-linked database as being an electronic version of numerous pedigree charts that connect together.
- There are many sources people to submit family databases to have them included in a larger, central lineage-linked database -- both online and offline.
- Lineage-linked databases are available on CD-ROM; as downloadable files from the Internet; through a search form via a web page; or at your local LDS Family History Center.
- Search through the lineage-linked databases listed below.
- Some lineage-linked databases are free for you to search, while others will require that you purchase a copy of the database or pay a subscription fee.
- When you contribute your personal family file (a.k.a. GEDCOM) to a commercial entity, be aware that you may not be given free access to the central database after you make your contribution. You may still be required to pay a fee, even though you freely contributed your own data to help build the database.
- If you choose to contribute to lineage-linked databases, keep in mind your every person's right to privacy. Learn more about privacy issues before you submit your file to any database and before you publish it (electronically or in print) or share it with others.
