Railroads played a huge role in American history. This was even more true in the settlement of the west, where entire communities were established as railroad towns. In some of these, nearly every family was engaged in some aspect of railroading, or in supplying the families who were. The Railroad Genealogical Society arose from the efforts of a small group of genealogists to cooperatively locate and share information on men who worked for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas RR. The mission of the RRGS is to locate and preserve in usable form whatever records still exist and to make them available to genealogists everywhere.
