"Calmes Notes," a newsletter, is published four times each year, for descendants of Marquis de la Calmes, the Huguenot, who came to America in the late 1600s. The descendants are organized in the Genealogical Society of Versailles, named in honor of his grandson, Marquis Calmes, IV, who served as a captain in the Revolutionary War and later as a brigadier general with Kentucky troops in the War of 1812. General Calmes founded and laid out the town of Versailles, Kentucky, which he named in honor of his friend and associate, General Lafayette. The general and his wife, the former Priscilla Heale, are buried in a mausoleum in what is now a horse farm pastured about midway between Versailles and Lexington. The society named in his honor maintains the mausoleum. "Calmes Notes" covers information of interest about the early Calmes' families and their descendants. For details, send e-mail to Eugene Cox at genecox@bluebon.net.
