This database is planned to contain biographical details of everyone who has been identified as being academically associated with the University of Cambridge, covering the period from 1200 onwards. In addition to the standard printed sources of information by Venn and Emden, which cover men only, we have added information from Newnham and Girton Colleges so that women are also included. All the men's biographies (up to matriculation in 1900) as listed in Venn and Emden are included. Emden's information largely supersedes the information in Venn for everyone at Cambridge before 1500. Women's data has been added from the registers of Newnham and Girton colleges; full details are shown only for women no longer living (either we know their death dates, or a latest possible death date can be inferred from their birth dates). From time to time blocks of data will be added from various college records. Again, only data for non-living people will be included.
